Music Director of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and Music Director designate of the Hamburg Symphony, Dr. Jeffrey Tate first studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and qualified as a doctor at St. Thomas' Hospital in London. Recent seasons also included a most successful new production of PARSIFAL in Bonn; DIE WALKUERE at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires; THE FLYING DUTCHMAN at Rome Opera; DIE KÖNIGSKINDER (Humperdinck) in Naples, ARIADNE AUF NAXOS and CAPRICCIO in Torino and his triumphant debut at La Scala in Milano with PETER GRIMES and ROSENKAVALIER; INTOLLERANZA . . . at the Opera of Cologne, where he has also conducted a new RING Cycle; a production of PARSIFAL in Australia, THE TURN OF THE SCREW at Grand Theatre Geneva.
Orchestras he has conducted include London Symphony, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, the Toronto and Montreal Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Maggio Musicale in Florence, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI in Torino, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Danish Radio Orchestra, Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Dresdner Philharmonie, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
Dr. Tate was named “Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur”, “Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres” as well as “C.B.E./Commander of the British Empire”.
