In the 2016-17 season, rising American tenor David Blalock will join Atlanta Opera as Nikolaus Sprink in Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell’s opera Silent Night, the same work in which he previously performed the role of Jonathan Dale with Lyric Opera of Kansas City. Last season, he saw performances of the Steersman in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer for Virginia Opera, Pong in Turandot with the Pacific Symphony and the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, Toby in Sweeney Todd with Mill City Summer Opera in Minneapolis, and Almaviva in Marcos Portugal’s rarely performed The Marriage . . . of Figaro for On Site Opera in New York City. His concert engagements included performances of Roderigo in Otello with the Minnesota Orchestra, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris for Performance Santa Fe, tenor soloist in Messiah with the Pacific Symphony, and a New Year’s gala with Richmond Symphony.
In the 2014-2015 season, David Blalock sang the role of Jaquino in Beethoven’s Fidelio with Madison Opera, Don Ottavio in North Carolina Opera’s production of Don Giovanni, Toby in Sweeney Todd with Virginia Opera, and the role of Ricky in the world premiere of The Long Walk at Opera Saratoga. He made his debut in New York City with On Site Opera in singing Almaviva in Paisiello’s Il barbiere di Siviglia.
