The Mutter Virtuosi is a string orchestra made up of young foundation scholars and professional string players who are alumni of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, a foundation for the development of global support for young, talented string soloists founded in Munich in 1997. Ms. Mutter has over the years frequently performed concerts with the foundation’s scholarship students to introduce them to the life of a professional musician and to a broad audience. Since 2011 she has expanded that activity with the formation of The Mutter Virtuosi for touring projects.
. . . The first tour was in Spring 2011 to Vienna, Lucerne, Baden-Baden, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Essen, Hannover, Friedrichshafen, and Wehr during which they performed Mendelssohn Octet, Vivaldi Four Seasons and a commissioned Duo Concertante for Violin and Double Bass by Krzysztof Penderecki.
The Duo Concertante was performed by Ms. Mutter and the first Aida Stucki Award winner, Roman Patkolo. Anne-Sophie Mutter and Roman Patkolo will also perform Ringtone Variations, a commissioned work of Sebastian Currier for violin and double bass on future tours of The Mutter Virtuosi.
Anne-Sophie Mutter feels strongly that her scholars and young professionals have the experience of traditional and new music and the experience of performing charity concerts for humanitarian causes: "I find it important that our young musicians are aware of their social responsibility as artists. Music is a gift to all, an opportunity of joint experience irrespective of origin, of doing something meaningful and placing yourself in the service of society as a musician."
Anne-Sophie Mutter performs as soloist and leader and will appear with The Mutter Virtuosi in China, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan in 2013 and in the United States in 2014. Repertoire will include the classics of Mendelssohn and Vivaldi as well as Andre Previn’s Violin Concerto No. 2 and a commissioned work of Sebastian Currier, Ringtone Variations for Violin and Double Bass.
