Dwight Rhoden, hailed by The New York Times as "one of the most sought out choreographers of the day", and Desmond Richardson, recognized by The New York Times as "one of the great modern dancers of his time", founded Complexions in 1994 with the goal of bringing together many different artists to express their uniqueness in culture, race and background through dance. The company has always sought to distinguish itself by grounding its cutting-edge choreography and original music within the roots of classical dance. Inspired by social and political issues and yet deeply personal, the dances of Complexions often contemplate the human condition and explore a full-range of emotions.
Rhoden and Richardson have extensive experience in television, film and theater and have worked with notable artists including Patrick Swayze, Madonna and Prince. Over the course of their careers, each has received prestigious awards recognizing their supreme artistry. The co-artistic directors will lead Complexions in a two-week engagement at New York's Joyce Theater in November 2008.
